STATEMENT
I’ve worked in a number of mediums over the years, but printmaking seems to have a grip on me. The depth and breadth of the medium is endlessly challenging and rewarding. Woodcuts have been the playground for my creation lately. When I make drawings, things get stirred up in an alternative universe. When I find something in the process, a light gets flipped on and then that piece gets some more attention and development. A train of thought, or a point of view is formed.
Images open doors for others to be born. Some are brought into a print medium like woodcut, lithography, intaglio, screenprint, or a mix of some or all. Most of the image discovery is in the drawing, but I leave room for changes and development in the print medium so things stay fresh, and I don’t get bored. The external world internalized and then pushed out again. That’s how I see the work being made, kind of cyclical.
Technically, the relief prints are intricate, with lots of textural passages, and fine line work. The craft has to meet the artist halfway. There is a magical reward when the first print is pulled that keeps an artist begging for more.
